Safar ki Dua in Urdu

You already have seen the prayer in Arabic. But if you are from Pakistan and can not read the Arabic language, let’s see the transliteration in Urdu:

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ

ترجمہ:  پاک ہے وہ ذات جس نے ہمیں یہ (سواری) مسخر کی، اور ہم اسے مسخر کرنے کے قابل نہ تھے، اور ہم اپنے رب کی طرف لوٹنے والے ہیں۔

Safar ki Dua in English

Subhanal-ladzi sakh-khara lana hadza wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbina lamun-qalibun.

Translation: Glory be to the One who has made this subservient to us, while we were not capable of doing it ourselves. And indeed, to our Lord, we will return

Explanation

This prayer is available in the Quran, Surah Zukhruf, verse 13.  It is a prayer of praise and gratitude to Allah for His many blessings, including the ability to ride animals and ships. The prayer also acknowledges that we are ultimately responsible to Allah and will return to Him one day.

Muslims pray this prayer before going on a journey, whether it is a short trip or a long journey. It is also a good prayer to recite when we feel grateful for Allah’s blessings.

How to Recite Safar Ki Dua?

Narrated by Ali ibn Rabi’a (RA). He said, “Once I appeared before Ali (RA). Then a beast was brought to him to mount. When he stepped on the foot of the animal and said, “Bismillah”. Then when he sat upright on the animal’s back he said, “Alhamdu lilla-ha” (All praise be to Allah) then said: 

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ

So, if you want to recite the Safar Ki Dua:

1. At first, say “Bismillah”
2. Then you pray.

The Prophet Muhammad Used to Recite Another Supplication—

اللَّهُمَّ إنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ في سَفَرِنَا هذا البِرَّ وَالتَّقْوَى، وَمِنَ العَمَلِ ما تَرْضَى، اللَّهُمَّ هَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا سَفَرَنَا هذا، وَاطْوِ عَنَّا بُعْدَهُ، اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ في السَّفَرِ، وَالْخَلِيفَةُ في الأهْلِ، اللَّهُمَّ إنِّي أَعُوذُ بكَ مِن وَعْثَاءِ السَّفَرِ، وَكَآبَةِ المَنْظَرِ، وَسُوءِ المُنْقَلَبِ في المَالِ وَالأهْلِ

Transliteration: Allahumma inna nas-aluka fi safarina haza-l-birra wat-taqwa, wa minal-‘amali ma tardho. Allahumma hawwin ‘alaina safarana haza, watwi ‘anna bu’dahu, Allahumma antas-sohibu fis-safar wal-khalifatu fil-ahli. Allahumma inni a-‘uzu bika min wa’atha-is-safar, wa kabbati-manzar, wa su-i-lmunqalabi fil-mal wal-ahli

Translation: O Allah, we ask You in our travel for righteousness, taqwa, and good deeds that You are pleased with. O Allah make our travel an ease, and shorten the distance for us. O Allah, You are our Companion in travel and the guardian of our family (in our absence). O Allah I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travel, a sight of grief, and from an unfortunate occurrence in wealth and family. (Sahih Muslim, Riyadh as saliheen) – Source: Islamhashtag

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ مَجْرَاهَا وَمُرْسَاهَا إِنَّ رَبِّي لَغَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

Translation: In the name of Allah, its course and its anchoring. Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful.

Source: This prayer is available in the Quran, Surah Hud, verse 41. It was said by Prophet Noah to the people who were invited to board the ark. The prayer is a supplication for safety and protection. It is also a reminder of Allah’s forgiveness and mercy.

Prophet Muhammad instructed us to read the following Dua when staying somewhere in the middle of the journey and said, ‘If you read this Dua, nothing can harm you until you return home. The prayer is: 

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ الله التَّامَّاتِ من شَرِّ ما خَلَقَ

Transliteration: A’udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq. (Sahih Muslim 2708)

Translation: I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.

This prayer is a powerful supplication that we can recite for protection from all types of evil, including the evil of jinn, humans, animals, and natural disasters. It is especially recommended to recite this prayer when entering a new place, such as a house, a car, or a new city.
